The freezing temperatures overnight cause problems for fuel in lawn mowers. A great way to start preparing for winter is to use a fuel stabilizer like Sta-Bil so the ethanol in the fuel doesn’t cause any problems. It’s such a simple task, and it prevents loads of problems.
Small engines like lawn mowers are notorious for having carburetor problems with all the ethanol in fuel today. I always use Sta-Bil, and I make sure to get fresh gas once we are nearing our first frost.*
*Except when I did the renovation, in which I got busy with the reno and forgot and had troubles starting the mower the next spring.
