I made a Lawn Striper for my Honda HRX217 lawn mower when I wanted my lawn stripes to really shine. This design will work for toro mowers, well any push mower really. It’s simple to do and only takes a small amount of materials.
Once my new renovation is growing I’ll be doing videos on how to stripe your lawn, what kind of lawn striping kit you should use, etc.

When is the best time to fertilize your grass in the spring? Every year people start asking me that. I understand, I’m excited to fertilize in the spring as well, but if you do it too soon you can stress your lawn.
Many people think the best time to fertilize lawn in spring is as soon as the snow melts. They think fertilizing early is what gets your lawn to green up fast. It’s actually not the case.

The best lawn fertilizer for spring is one that won’t burn your lawn and won’t try to get the grass growing before it’s ready. I’ve found the best spring fertilizer is Milorganite. In this video I’ll cover why, and why not to use Urea, Scott’s Step 1, or Starter Fertilizer for your first spring lawn treatment.

The key to preventing salt damage to your lawn is to start before the lawn wakes up. Rake as much salt and sand off the grass early. If you get a ton of salt in your area pick up some gypsum to apply. This will counteract the salt in the soil and prevent your

I heard this tip from the Matt Allen Show about using lawn fertilizer for ice melt. While it’s not as powerful as normal ice melt, it does melt the ice (slower though).
If you already used salt, you can purchase Gypsum to treat the soil to prevent salt damage. Really useful around the edges of the lawn where plows drop sand all winter lawn.
Warning! Thanks to Virginia Refuse Trucks for pointing out that some states it’s against the law to use fertilizer. Check with your state 😉

If you go the fertilizer route, use the 46-0-0 fertilizer. There is research that shows potassium could cause snow mold, so using starter fertilizer like I did or 10-10-10 could increase your snow mold risk. I’ll post an update video in the spring to see if this caused any for me.

On a side note I’ve been building a social media platform, its similar to a forum but the idea is to share cool stuff. There is a lawn care section! If you make YouTube videos feel free to share them. If you have tips/questions those are welcome too:
I used to HATE raking. Like seriously dread it, until I started using this rake. It makes so much more sense!

I discovered The Groundskeeper II when a friend let me borrow his. It was amazing at moving peat moss around. The last time I used peat moss in a renovation it was brutal, this made it easy
So I shot them an email and said it was my favorite rake ever, and they sent me two of them! Pretty sweet! Using the rake on leaves felt very similar to the peat moss. No downward pressure and the tines really dig in at just the right angle to pick everything up.
OK so you’re probably saying, it’s just a rake. I know. I just get excited when I find tools I really like. Like my Honda HRX, or Stihl Trimmer, or Blendtec Blender lol
Anyways, so yes The Groundskeeper II sent me two free rakes, but no they didn’t pay me to make videos. I actually made two videos before they even knew I existed lol

Planting KBG gives you the option of moving plugs to fill in bare spots. This is especially helpful if you are trying to maintain a weed free lawn.
When you plant new grass seed you are limited in what you can use to prevent weeds, so it’s easy for them to take over. Moving Kentucky Bluegrass plugs allows the grass to fill in the surrounding area over time, without having to skip pre-emergents.

I purchased a new backpack sprayer from harbor freight, and the first thing I did was tested it with water. This is very important! If you aren’t testing with water first, that means you’ll be using chemicals the first time you discover any leaks.
This particular unit was leaking at the valve. I tried taking it apart to see if anything was stuck or if the o rings were broken, but nothing looked out of the ordinary.
I tried to return the unit but was told you have to call an 800 number. Despite it being tested with water I guess there are laws they have to follow.
