Making lawn stripes with my Honda Self Propelled Lawn Mower and Checkmate Lawn Striping Kit. I’m going to try it later with the Toro Lawn Striper and the DIY lawn striping kit as well, and then compare.
The checkmate striping kit was actually easy to use in the turns and backing up. The lawn stripes look really good, even on the lawn renovation.

Installing the Checkmate Striping Kit wasn’t too hard. It’s a very solid striping kit, the construction of it is very hardcore. The lawn stripes it made were awesome as well.
They do make a striping kit for ride on lawn mowers and a striping kit for push mowers.

I bought a toro lawn striping kit to see what all the fuss was about. To get perfect lawn stripes you need a striping kit that works. My DIY lawn striping kit works OK, but I didn’t know if the toro striping kit would work better.
I ordered from MowPart.com, I saw their post on Instagram and asked a few questions first. I actually ordered the striping kit over the phone and they shipped it that day. Check them out http://mowpart.com

I put the Ego Cordless 56v Trimmer up against the Stihl FS 56 Gas Trimmer to see which would eat tall grass the best.
When comparing an electric trimmer vs gas trimmer you have to ignore the noise. We have the tendency to equate volume with power, when really both handled the tall grass cutting the same.

I tried out the Ego Power+ 56-Volt lithium ion string trimmer and boy, I liked it. The cordless trimmer of the past is dead, these new electric weed eaters are amazing.
Even better the trimmer battery is the same battery as the ego lawn mower so you can get a bunch of batteries and use them interchangeably.
I will be honest here, I used to hate the idea of using a cordless trimmer. It’s why I went gas. But the lithium ion packs a big punch. I would buy this trimmer if my old one died, hands down!

My old DIY lawn striping kit broke, so it was time to build a new one. This striping kit is much more solid and should last. While I made it for the Honda HRX217, you should be able to modify it to work on any push mower.
I would only recommend a striping kit on a self propelled lawn mower. If you use a manual push mower it’s gonna be heavy. The Honday self propelled lawn mowers will handle this striping kit like a BOSS.

I have a whole playlist on my lawn renovation, be sure to check it out below. I killed the entire lawn off to plant pure elite KBG. It has been a slow process, our weather has been unusually rainy, cold, and very little sunlight.
What is really cool though is the kentucky bluegrass really takes off when we finally do get the sun. So I’m really excited to see how it will do this summer!
